Under His Command by Kristine Cayne

Hi Kristine, it's a pleasure to have you here. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m Kristine Cayne and I write romantic suspense and erotic romance. I live in the Pacific Northwest. It’s not my favorite place on earth, but the writing community here is wonderful.
How did you decided to enter the world of writing?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer. But, after completing a degree in British Literature, I knew literary fiction wasn’t for me. It took me several years to find my way to genre fiction and romantic suspense in particular. But once I did, I was hooked!
What does your family think of your writing?
They are very supportive, for the most part. The kids grumble that I’m always writing, and my husband claims that I have a Facebook addiction. I know they’re proud of me though. My parents have been great. Believe it or not, they’ve read both my Deadly Vices books. I told my mother that she shouldn’t read my erotic romance, Under His Command, but she said: “That’s the one you don’t want me to read? You know I will.” Gotta love her.
Where do you get your ideas?
My ideas generally spark from some real world event or situation. As I begin to research the idea, a storyline often comes to me and I go from there.
Can you tell us a little about your book?
My current work in progress is Under His Command. It’s the first book in my Sex Alarm Sexy firefighter erotic romance series. I’m working on edits now, and I plan to release it on December 17th.
What is your writing process?
I write the draft without editing it. However, I go over each scene with my critique partner and adjust things as I go based on her comments. When I’m done the first draft, I go back and put in all the edits from our scene reviews. Then, I send the second draft to the beta readers. While they are working on that, I’m working on adding more layers (emotion, body movement, setting, etc.) to the story. When I get the comments from the beta readers, I incorporate them and send everything to my critique partner (who is also an experienced editor). She makes her comments. We go through the entire book several times, looking for repetitions, improving word choice, tightening, and cutting. The final check is for typos.
What was the hardest part for you when working on your book?
Staying focused. I love writing. My characters scream at me to put their stories on paper. But writing is difficult, and it takes a long time. It’s easy for me to become distracted by other mindless activities. As a self-published author, I also find promotion to be very time-consuming. It can be fun, and it’s definitely necessary. But it takes focus away from writing.
Kristine I can totally relate to being distracted by the time-consuming promotion, but we have to do it. What influenced or inspired you to write?
It’s not any specific thing other than my love of books. I’ve always read a lot. When I was a child, my father signed me up to the Double Day book club. I also regularly purchased boxes of books from the Scholastic Book Club at school. I visited the library each week. Still, I never had enough to read. I’m still like that!
Was there a scene that you didn’t add or you removed in your finished work?
Because words don’t always flow from my fingertips, I had throwing them away. As a result, I’ve become fairly good at writing only scenes that I need. That isn’t to say that I never need to pare a scene down. I do. I tend to write long and in my first draft I have scenes that don’t end where they should. But by my second draft, those have been fixed.
Part of a scene that never made it into my second book, Deadly Addiction, is a scene that describes a particular bedroom manoeuver for which the hero has become known. After re-reading it, I decided that it sounded too much like a “how-to” manual and cut it.
Do you have a favorite character (from you're book)? Why?
I love all my characters. They are all unique and special to me and there is something about each of them that I love. So, no favorites.
That's exactly how I feel about all of mine. They become your babies, lol. Do you already know what to write next? Can you tell us?
Yes, as soon as Under His Command is released, I’m starting the draft of Deadly Betrayal, the third book in the Deadly Vices series. I also plan to try to parallel-write the second book in the Six Alarm Sexy series. I’ve never written two books at the same time, so it will be fun to see how that goes.

Lone Star Joy by Kathleen Ball

Hi Kathleen, thanks for taking time to visit
and to share your work. Please tell us a little bit about yourself .
I Write Contemporary Western Romance. I’m married and have one son.
How did you decided to enter the world of writing?
I know a lot of authors have known from an early age that they wanted to write. I read-- a lot. My son was going off to college and someone suggested I try writing. I loved it!!
What does your family think of your writing?
Now that I’m published and have gotten great feedback now they think it’s great. At first they thought of it as a hobby-- my husband and son. Now I get great support from all of my family.
Where do you get your ideas?
I try to find situations where there are obstacles in the main character’s lives. Reasons they can’t be together or reasons that they are thrown together.
Can you tell us a little about your book?
Lone Star Joy is my most recent release. Sexy, Cowboy, Stamos Walker runs a work release program for nonviolent male prisoners. When Joy Courtland shows up on his doorstep, he assumes she's the nanny. He hands her his son and rushes out to work.

Joy, a convicted felon, bonds with little Dillon immediately. Stamos isn't happy when he returns and finds out Joy is not the nanny.

While trying to get Joy back to prison through the proper channels, Stamos realizes Joy is not a killer. He doesn't want her to go back to prison. Stamos is willing to try everything he can to keep Joy safe even if it means marriage.

What is your writing process?
I usually start with character flaws-- reasons that they are reluctant to give their heart to another.
What was the hardest part for you when working on your book?
Being interrupted for a length of time-- days or weeks. I lose my momentum. I have to reread the book to get the feel for it again.
I can relate, I hate to lose my momentum. What influenced or inspired you to write?
I never knew what I wanted to be. You know when you’re young you have dreams of what you want to do. I never knew. I’m good at a lot of things but nothing sparked me as this is me, this is what I do. I’m a wife and mother-- I’m an accountant. I love to read and I love to do crafts. BUT-- when I started writing I found my bliss in life.
Was there a scene that you didn’t add or you removed in your finished work?
I love books that make me cry. I guess I went a little overboard. One editor said look you can’t have her crying every page.
Do you have a favorite character (from you're book)? Why?
They are all so different and when I’m writing them they become my favorite. Joy Courtland from Lone Star Joy . She was convicted of killing her stepmother and spent many years in prison. It was complex to make her hard and expressionless on the outside while she warred within her heart. Could she-- should she fall for the handsome Stamous Walker?
Do you already know what to write next? Can you tell us?
I have started a new series. The working title is Cowboy Seasons. Secret Cravings Publishing gave me a four book contract. I’m writing Spring’s Delight now and it revolves around rescue horses. I began to research them and the stories of neglect and abuse broke my heart.

A Collie Rescue by Lindsay Downs

                    \\

A COLLIE RESCUE

A Christmas Surprise
B&N-
Amazon-

Hi Lindsay, thanks for stopping by and sharing. Please  tell us a little bit about yourself- There’s really not much to tell. Both my parents were avid readers and collectors of first edition books. My mother specialized in Thomas Hardy while my father had a collection of Sir Walter Scott that rivaled the British Museum.
When I was in high school I never wrote within the normal guidelines much to my English teachers frustration. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, it’s just that I felt my way was the right way. I guess that’s why now my books don’t really fit within the norm of the targets genre.

How did you decided to enter the world of writing? I don’t know it is was me deciding to become a writer or writing called to me that had me choose this path. Which every it is I’m glad to be part of the community of authors.
What does your family think of your writing? I have no idea as I don’t have any family that I acknowledge or that they me.
Where do you get your ideas? I wish I had a clue. Sometimes it’s a word I hear or something I see. Whatever it is the ideas just keep coming. I have gotten where I keep a file with the ideas along with a few words to help me out when and if I take on the story.
Can you tell us a little about your book? My most current release is A Collie Rescue from Astraea Press. This book is part of the Emily Dahill, Series and is very near and dear to my heart. First, part of the royalties are being donated to The Pet Fund (thepetfund.com) and secondly the story deals with the hardship a homeless veteran goes through on an almost daily basis.
A Collie Rescue
Former Army Sergeant Sandi Charleston, diagnosed with PTSD and homeless barely survives day to day. By a miracle of fate she meets Taz, a uniquely special collie, who helps turn her life around.
Only through him does she find the courage to go head to head with her worst enemy-terrorist bent on mass destruction.
Bound by a special love to help and protect each other, side by side these two unlikely partners willingly march forward into battle. A fight to the death neither is sure can be won but fighting as one they will try to.
Kidnapped and forced to reveal what she knows Sandi realizes there is only one individual who can save her from certain death. It’s not the government but her new best buddy.
Together they defeat the enemy proving once again that battle buddies come in all shapes and breeds.
Rescued, Sandi finally realizes that there is a new and better life for her as long as Taz is part of it.
And this is the blurb to A Christmas Surprise due out later this month
If I hear one more debutante declare that they will never marry unless it is for love, well. I shall break my quill! And we all know what happens when I break my quill. Things become very upsetting and it isn’t long before I--- Well, that is quite another story. Let this author, this matriarch, this paragon of society guide you with her infinite wisdom. It is apparent that many of you have gotten this silly notion of love in your head, most likely from American influence, and please do not get me started on those savages. The point, young dears, is that love, is silly. Take for example Lady Aleece, poor young dear never stood a chance! Can you imagine being mauled in public? By a commoner no less? Although, rumors have been running rampant that this very delicious commoner is in fact the Marquess of Somerset, I have my doubts. For one thing, a Marquess should be more unfortunate looking which is clearly not the case with Somerset. Let this be a lesson dear readers. If you marry for love, there is a very big chance that you will end up with your heart broken, or in that wretched commoners case—kidnapped (though many believe he should have been killed for even breathing the same air as our fair lady). Dear readers, have I taught you nothing this holiday season?—Mrs. Peabody’s Society Papers.
What is your writing process?
I try to get anywhere between 1,200 to 1,400 words written a day. This is currently spread out between 3 different books but I only work on one a day.
What was the hardest part for you when working on your book? Finishing the story. Many times it doesn’t want to end.
Was there a scene that you didn’t add or you removed in your finished work? There are always scenes that I either added or removed from the released book. This is especially true with the regency I wrote and is in edits right now.
Do you have a favorite character (from you're book)? Why? I think my most favorite is “the brown haired man”. He’s in the Emily Dahill Series as a villain. What makes him so much fun is I don’t know when, where or how he’ll show up in the book. Plus, the only thing I know about him is his hair color. He doesn’t even have a real name but takes on the persona of the character he portrays.
Next to him, it’s a toss-up between Dakota, the hero collie in the Emily Dahill Series, and Lady Aleece Taylor, the outspoken heroine in my Christmas regency.
Do you already know what to write next? Can you tell us? Yes. As I mentioned earlier I’ve got 3, no 4, books in the wings that I’m working on. The first is the sequel to A Christmas Surprise, the first in The House of Somerset series. This one will be called Maid To Be a Lady and answers several questions brought up in the first one, including who exactly Debbi, Lady Aleece’s lady’s maid, is.
Where can we find more information about you and your books? Your readers can either go to Astraea Press, www.astraeapress.com, or my Amazon author page
Do you have any last words? Being a writer isn’t work or a job but a passion that embraces you, as you it. I totally agree with you, it's awesome! Thanks for sharing your work.
