Why She Left Us by David Dennis

Today we have awesome David D' Aguaano  sharing his work. David tell us a little bit about yourself.
Product DetailsI am a retired English teacher who did most of my writing during the 1980s while on summer vacations. Upon the urging of various friends and relatives, I’ve recently reworked some of my earlier writings and am now making them available to a wider audience. I’ve also written a series of comedy-mysteries featuring a character by the name of Brett Cornell ("Brett Gets Hammered" & others), which interested readers can find on various sites (such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.) as well.
How did you decide to enter the world of writing?
Product DetailsI’ve been writing stories of one sort or another since I was in the fifth grade. My interest in writing probably reached its peak when, as an adolescent, I was completely overwhelmed by the adventures of Aladdin, Sinbad, & others in “The Arabian Nights.” After that, it was “The Three Musketeers” which prompted me to write serious and dramatic tales of adventure, at least when I was younger.
What does your family think of your writing?
Oddly enough, many of my family members, while well-educated, are not readers. That is, they’ll read newspapers and magazine articles,  but will rarely pick up a book and read it from start to finish. So, what I’m saying here is that they aren’t really all that familiar with my writing, except in excerpted form.
 Product Details
Where do you get your ideas?

Usually I get my ideas from talking to friends and hearing about funny or strange incidents in their lives. Aside from that, as a former avid reader, I’ll recall striking ideas from various novels I read in the past and will try to rework them in my own writing.
Can you tell us a little about your book?
man and woman hands
“Why She Left Us” is quite unique, insofar as all my other novels are comical and written in a tongue-in-cheek style (such as my series of Brett Cornell comedy-mysteries). Although there are some passages in this book that could be described as serio-comical, the basic tone here is one of heightened emotion, whether it be the emotion of love, grief, anger, revenge, you-name-it. The novel alternates scenes expressing bitterness with those of a more flowery, romantic nature, with an emphasis on tenderness rather than unbridled passion.

What is your writing process?

It usually takes weeks before I actually begin writing. First I need to come up with a basic idea, gimmick, plot device, what-have-you, and think it through as thoroughly as I can, often jotting down characters’ names and personality traits as I go along. Then the actual writing seems to go fairly smoothly – that is, until I re-read some of it and often find that it needs to be re-worked, or it doesn’t convey the emotional strength I’d originally wanted it to convey.

What was the hardest part for you when working on your book?

Product DetailsThis particular book is written from the point of view of five different characters, four of whom are women. So, not only did I need to meet the challenge of putting myself in the heads of five different people and attempt to differentiate between the five of them in terms of style (for example), but I also had to think like a woman: Not an easy thing for a guy to do, believe me!

What influenced or inspired you to write?

I think it’s primarily the drama or the emotional impact of a piece that stirs me the most, whether it be after watching or reading a play, a novel, or even an opera which, as many people are aware, can be jam-packed with emotion and dramatic tension. This is probably why I’m more apt to write fiction than non-fiction. I guess I’m more keyed into a fantasy world than I am to the so-called real world.

Product Details
Was there a scene that you didn’t add or you removed in your finished work?

Yes, as a matter of fact, there was one scene (as seen through the eyes of a secondary character) that was sexually graphic, and I decided to remove it, since I felt it spoiled the overall tone of the work. There is occasional “rough language” but only for dramatic effect and in remaining true to the personalities of the characters involved.

Do you have a favorite character (from your book)? Why?

Product DetailsMy favorite character (aside from the main character of Betsy) would have to be Wayne, basically because I’ve deliberately kept his dialogue to a minimum, and also because, when he is first introduced in the story, he’s depicted as a shady type of individual. By the end of the novel, however, I hope that the reader is able to feel all of the sincere emotions that Wayne feels throughout the story, and most importantly, that his character should elicit a great deal of sympathy on the part of the reader.

Do you already know what to write next? Can you tell us?

I’ll probably be writing another comedy-mystery in my Brett Cornell series, mainly because Brett (as of Book 9 in the series) still has some unresolved issues with his girlfriend Ginger as well as a score to settle with his arch-enemy Gil Bailey

Product DetailsWhere can we find more information about you and your books?

I have a blog that’s devoted almost exclusively to the Brett Cornell series, which can be found at

The Light-Bearer Series by Emily Guido

 About the Author:
Emily Guido is a new Paranormal Romance Author. She was inspired to start writing "Charmeine" because one day she got an idea of two characters that needed to have their story told. Not ever dreaming a week later she would have over a 100,000 words written. When Emily writes, it is similar to you or I watching a movie. She pictures the characters in her head going through vivid descriptions of each scene. There are so many nuances going through her mind that she cannot type fast enough.  The novels “Mactus,” “Accendo,” “Seditious,” and “Ransom,” are the continuation of the wonderful adventures of the inhabitants of The Castle Charmeine!

By Emily Guido

“Emily’s Interview with the HOT MEN of the Castle Charmeine”

I have been waiting for the interview for several days now.  I didn’t know what to expect these gentlemen came in but I am pleasantly surprised to say the least… *swoon*…

Emily: Gentlemen Good Evening!
ALL: Good Evening.

Emily: Let me start out with a general question just to break the ice.  Do all four of you live at the ‘Castle Charmeine’?
ALL:  Yes.

Emily: Now, who originally owed Castle Charmeine?

Tabbruis: I think Dmitri should answer that one.

Dmitri: Oh my… Well, you see my dear; I came to Romania a long time ago, millennia as a matter of fact.  (Chuckling) I had many experiences there and some of the folks used to make up a scary bedtime story about me… the “Red Dragon” is what they called me.  But then Tabbruis came and we began to share the Castle…

Emily: Excuse me?  (wide open eyes) What do you mean by “Red Dragon”?

Dmitri:  Oh my… Well my dear that is “Dracul” to you and I.

Emily:  Dracula?

Dmitri:  Well my love if you think that, that’s fine with me… (and smiled with bright white teeth and long eye-teeth)

Dmitri’s Pic

Emily: Oh well that’s okay… (a little scared… turning to Tabbruis now…) Tabbruis tell me about yourself?

Tabbruis: I... well I am just a happy man now that I have Charmeine.  She lights up my life.  Before I was…
Thomas:  He was alone but not totally happy?

Tabbruis:  Yes, quite right, not totally happy?

Tabbruis’ Pic

Emily:  Well Thomas since you spoke up?  How are you today?

Thomas:  Yes, well… I’m fine.  We are very busy at the Castle Charmeine.  There are a lot of people there, and we constructing new rooms right now.

Neal:  (In a gruff African accent) -My lover and husband, Hameal and I are constructing new additions to the Castle Charmeine… you three are trying not to get killed!

Tabbruis: That was Charmeine’s fault… she distracted me Neal.

Neal:  That is no excuse for not paying attention; it was a power nail gun!

Neal’s Pic

                                                              Neal and Hameal’s Pic

Thomas’ Pic

Emily:  (Snickering) So I take it there was a mishap with a tool in the renovations?

Dmitri:  Oh my… yes well, Tabbruis did not look where he was going and a nail shot Neal in the lower backside.

Thomas:  (laughing out loud)  He shot him in the butt!

Dmitri:  Oh my… yes but everything is fine.  We, blood-hunters, heal very fast.

Tabbruis:  Thank God for that!

Emily:  So… on another subject… gentlemen, um tell me you are all so incredibly gorgeous, are all blood-hunters like you?

Dmitri:  Oh my… well, I believe we are all classically handsome… (giving a wink to me… *swoon*)

Tabbruis:  Dmitri… I think she means that we are some sort of eye-candy for the ladies…

Dmitri:  Oh my…

Thomas: Ugh… (Little squeak) I am… well yes ma’am… we are all… UGH!

Neal:  Yes!  I believe all blood-hunters are pretty good looking and incredibly gorgeous too!

Tabbruis:  You would!!!  Neal! (Rolling his eyes)

Emily:  I’m getting something of an undercurrent to this question?  Is there?

Dmitri:  Oh well my love, we are all good-looking to the ladies… very much so.

Thomas:  But we didn’t ask to be so good-looking… I guess it comes just natural?

Emily:  (Fanning myself with my notebook) You all… all blood-hunters are this gorgeous?

Tabbruis:  Well women seem to be naturally attracted to us.

The boys of the Castle Charmeine

Emily:  (Getting a drink of water… starting to get dizzy looking at these men) How could women not be attracted?

Neal:  (Gruffly)  Don’t look!

Thomas:  She’s a human woman, she’s attracted just because you aren’t attracted to her doesn’t mean she can’t look.

Neal:  Well, I am certainly no one’s eye candy!

Dmitri:  Oh my

Emily:  Have you had women falling over you before?

Tabbruis:  Many times… but I waited millennia for Charmeine, my love!

Thomas:  I’ve… I’m taking the fifth on that!

Dmitri:  Oh my!

Neal:  Never, thank God!

Emily:  (Pulling my hair up and taking a big gulp of water) Tabbruis, can you tell me your favorite past time at the Castle Charmeine?

Tabbruis: That’s easy, spoiling my love, Charmeine.  We have two horses, Tristan and Isolde, which we ride and go down to our private beach.  Tabbruis smiled in revelry.

Emily:  Private beach?

Dmitri:  The Castle Charmeine has a beach flanking its property on one side, so we ride out there every chance we get.

Neal:  Yes, Tabbruis and Charmeine are out there quite a lot.

Tabbruis:  I will have to admit that Charmeine and I love the beach.  I just want her to happy.  I love Charmeine so much…

Thomas, Dmitri and Neal:  We know!!!

Emily:  Well, on that thought, (wetting my lips down and fanning myself) I will end this lovely interview.  It certainly has been fun interviewing the “HOT MEN FROM CASTLE CHARMEINE!”

Leave a comment, author is giving away two books!
